Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) leadership visits representatives of SkyAlyne Canada, contractor for the RCAF’s Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program, and Airbus Helicopters of Canada during the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada Summit in Ottawa as the contract for procurement of 19 H-135 training helicopters for the RCAF was signed.

These helicopters will be based at 15 Wing’s 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School at Southport Aerospace Centre, near Portage la Prairie, MB. FAcT is one example of how the RCAF is prioritizing the modernization of our training programs to ensure they are in lockstep with our front-line weapon systems, and industry collaboration is key. This marks the first time that Airbus helicopters will fly as part of the Canadian Armed Forces.

All Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) pilots are currently trained through two contracted programs, managed separately by SkyAlyne’s parent companies, CAE and KF Aerospace. This program will renew aircrew training services to help maintain a multi-purpose and combat capable air force. It will include delivery of pilot training, as well as aircrew training for air combat systems officers and airborne electronic sensor operators.

The Contracted Flying Training and Support  (CFTS) program in Southport, MB, is led by KF Aerospace and the NATO Flying Training in Canada  (NFTC) program in Moose Jaw, SK/Cold Lake, AB, is managed by Montreal-based CAE.

CAE signed a 25-year sub-contract valued at approximately $1.7 billion from SkyAlyne, a joint venture between CAE and KF Aerospace, to provide the RCAF with modern, state-of-the-art pilot training, supporting the (FAcT) program.

The contract secures production slots with aircraft deliveries beginning in mid-2026.
