General Dynamics to Demonstrate Innovative Solutions at CANSEC 2022

General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada has been Canada’s strategic industrial partner for the past 45 years. General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada will showcase products, solutions and services that demonstrate how its focus on innovation and emerging technologies ensures the Canadian Armed Forces have systems that are highly integrated and provide the capability to face any challenge.

• Zetros truck: This solution for the Logistics Vehicle Modernization (LVM) project is being put forward with partners Marshall Canada, Mercedes-Benz, Soframe, and Manac Inc., a.k.a. the LVM Power Team. Specifically designed as an off-road vehicle, the Zetros is at its best on demanding transport tasks for heavy payload in austere conditions. The Zetros provides superior highway and cross-country performance because of its precision chassis design and robust components, which ensure fast, safe driving over varying types of ground. Zetros incorporates technologies that have been proved in more than 1 million fielded vehicles. It has been extensively tested to Mercedes-Benz’ quality standards for unconditional off-road performance, including more than 50 million kilometers of engine testing.

• Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV) Command Post variant: The ACSV Command Post gives commanders the tools to enhance their situational awareness so that they can synchronize, command and control, and employ forces at the right time and place while mobile on operations. The Canadian-designed and -manufactured ACSV variants have a common baseline chassis with the Canadian Army’s in-service LAV 6.0 fleet and carry the same level of performance and survivability. The eight ACSV variants are: Command Post, Troop/Cargo Vehicle (TCV), Ambulance (AMB), Engineer, Electronic Warfare (EW), Maintenance Recovery Vehicle (MRV), Mobile Repair Team (MRT), and the Fitter/Cargo Vehicle (FCV).

• Light Armoured Vehicle Reconnaissance Surveillance System (LRSS): The LRSS project provides the Canadian Army with state-of-the-art surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities integrated into 66 LAV 6.0 chassis — creating what is known as the LAV 6.0 Recce. The highly modular and stabilized sensor suite includes radar, thermal imaging, laser systems and an operator control station that give Recce soldiers the ability to perform reconnaissance and targeting at extended ranges. LRSS will support enhanced reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities while on the move or static, with extended silent-watch capabilities.

• Katalyst Next Generation Electronic Architecture (NGEA):Land Systems’ modular open architecture features scalable and modular hardware and software for next-generation capabilities. It significantly improves effectiveness via enhanced mobility; object detection; identification/recognition; and 360-degree situational awareness. Katalyst NGEA also provides core capabilities such as computing, sensor fusion and processing, and power management and distribution.

• Autonomous Vehicle System (AVS): The AVS software developed by Land Systems can change the way the military manages its maintenance activities. AVS allows the customer to move from reactive maintenance to predictive maintenance under which the user is notified in advance of an expected failure.

• Digital Training System (DTS): Land Systems-Canada has developed the DTS platform for in-depth, interactive LAV training. The DTS allows training to be completed in groups instead of one-on-one because it can take place off of the vehicle platform. The DTS is connected to electronic architecture, allowing the trainers to demonstrate the operation of various components.

General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is a force in the business community – developing cutting-edge solutions and building a critical understanding of user needs to deliver defence and technology capabilities to the Canadian Armed Forces across land, sea, air and cyber domains.

• Making its return to CANSEC, the LX300 Remotely Piloted Helicopter will be on display. With an innovative tandem rotor design and quick attach system, it allows for sustained operations in multiple mission types. It has a certified heavy fuel engine, capacity to carry 180kg, and has an endurance of 10 hours with 200km extended line of sight.

• At Stand 3042 (located with the outdoor displays), General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Joint Defence headquarters (JDHQ) will showcase new capabilities supported by its Tactical Network as a Service (TNaaS) architecture. The demonstration will include Battle Management Applications (BMA), Land Electronic Warfare (EW) support measures, Air Defence (AD) systems, vehicle defence electronic systems, soldier system integration, advanced headquarter technologies including containerized systems, Cyber Defence and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

• General Dynamics Mission Systems also will feature its underwater acoustic solutions and technologies, as well as airborne mission management capabilities developed for the Aurora maritime patrol aircraft and the Cyclone maritime helicopter program.

• Information on the future of Vehicle Electronic Architecture, including Tactical Networking and Routing, Power and Video Distribution, and Mission Computing and Displays will be available.

• General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Bluefin Robotics® will showcase the Bluefin™-9 Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV), which boasts the most powerful sensor package in a small-class, two-man portable UUV. With its unmatched navigation and survey capabilities, the Bluefin-9 provides high-quality data that allows the professional to better understand the ocean floor during expeditionary operations. Its innovative design permits users to collect data and begin a new mission in less than 30 minutes, effectively enabling the Bluefin-9 to do the work of two UUVs in a single UUV.

• The General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Digital Modular Radio (DMR) provides multiple communication waveforms and multi-level information security for secure tactical and data transmissions aboard U.S. Navy ships and submarines. The latest DMR enhancement increases transmission rates while reducing static and other audio noise for crisp, clear voice communications. The four-channel DMR is the first software defined radio to become a communications standard for the U.S. Navy.

• The CM-300/350 V2 software defined ground-to-air radios provide reliable, clear, ground-to-air communications for air traffic control centers, commercial airports, military air stations and range installations. As part of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NEXCOM 2 modernization program contract, the CM-300/350 V2 family of radios is certified to operate across the U.S. National Air Space (NAS) to replace outdated, unsupportable legacy radios, some of which are almost 50 years old. As digital radios, they can be software updated and managed remotely, thus delivering long-term cost savings, system interoperability and consistent, reliable, long-term performance. With over 8,000 radios delivered and 3,000 fielded, the FAA and the U.S. military have begun to standardize these radio systems and have selected them as their preferred choice to replace outdated legacy radios at major U.S. military installations.

• Cyber Defense Products will showcase the Sectéra vIPer Universal Secure Phone, the only Voice over IP (VoIP) phone certified to protect information classified Top Secret/SCI and below over commercial wired networks. As the use of VoIP technology grows, vIPer is the smart choice as it allows easy switching between making end-to-end secure and non-secure calls on Voice over IP (VoIP) and analog networks, eliminating the need for multiple desktop phones.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems-Canada

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems-Canada will feature a spectrum of conventional ammunitions provided to the Canadian Armed Forces.

• 127mm Naval Ammunition: Up to the end of 1990s, the Royal Canadian Navy’s Iroquois Class was equipped with 127mm weapon systems. In appreciation of the legacy 127mm weapon systems, artefacts of the Cartridge Case and High Explosive Projectile will be showcased, as the Royal Navy once again will integrate a version of the 127mm weapon system in its future Combatant Surface Ships.

• Reduced Range Ammunition (RRA): Visitors will be able to see and discuss the most recent advances in this field, including the new 30mm RRA projectile and the improved 12.7mm (.50 cal) RRA and frangible SRTA bullets under development.

• 7.62mm FX® & SecuriBlank® ammunition soon will be introduced to the Simunition® training solution suite, to be used in conjunction with Simunition® conversion kits for the FN SCAR-H, the H&K 417 and the AK-47 weapons. This new caliber of ammunition will complement the existing suite of Simunition® FX® / SecuriBlank® training ammunition.

• 9mm FX® Gen 2 ammunition soon will be introduced to the Simunition® training solution suite to be used in conjunction with existing Simunition® conversion kits. This cartridge was developed to greatly reduce barrel fouling when firing the original 9mm FX® cartridge and will be available in both Marking and Nonmarking configurations.
