The CT-114 Tutor is primarily flown by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds demonstration team at public events throughout North America. The Snowbirds showcase the high level of skill, professionalism, teamwork, discipline and dedication inherent in the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Tutor was the primary jet trainer for the Royal Canadian Air Force until 2000. The Tutors flown by the Snowbirds are slightly modified for show features and enhanced performance during low-level aerobatic flying.

Many are familiar with CT-114 Tutor aircraft that the Squadron flies — the aircraft are resplendent with their trademark red, white and blue markings, and the signature nose cone lights which can be seen twinkling from many miles away.

The Snowbirds also lend their success to industry partners who are helping to keep the jet airworthy and compliant. A notable effort currently underway is the CT-114 Tutor Avionics Upgrade project, which is designed by L3Harris, and implemented by IMP Aerospace at CFB Trenton. The project expands the Tutor’s existing capabilities while adding extra safety features — the addition of the off-the-shelf Garmin GDU 1060 Electronic Flight Displays simplifies navigation, increases situational awareness, and reduces pilot workload. In addition to new Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorders, the Tutor becomes ADS-B compliant, allowing it to fly in controlled airspace across North America and beyond.
