Current DND Projects:

Rolls-Royce has been a long-term dedicated partner of DND with propulsion systems powering several aircraft fleets, including the AE2100 powered C-130J fleet, the T-56 powered CC-130 Hercules and CP-140 Aurora fleets and the Adour powered Hawk fleet for the NATO flight Training in Canada program. Rolls-Royce also powers the Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft which is currently being procured by DND for the Strategic Tanker & Transport Capability program. Rolls-Royce will be providing major power and propulsion systems (MT-30 gas turbines), generators (Series 4000 diesel generators from RR owned MTU businesses), Mission Bay Handling Systems (RR Peterborough), and other critical ship handling and related equipment for the Canadian Surface Combatant program (Irving).

Level of investment in R&D:

In 2021, Rolls-Royce invested £1.2B on research and development. Over the next 18 months, 64% of the Group’s R&D investment will be directed to the delivery of decarbonisation strategies.

A leading global provider of power and propulsion systems and services for use on land, at sea, in the air and in space for customers in the civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine, energy/industrial power systems and civil nuclear markets. Canadian facilities provide repair and overhaul of gas turbine engines on civil and military engines; headquarters for the ship handling equipment business and Canadian program management offices for major Canadian Naval/Coast Guard programs. A world-class outdoor cold-weather and icing R&D center is located in Thompson, MB. Rolls-Royce is also taking a leading global role in charting the pathway to the de-carbonization of the planet through aggressive work in electrification of flight, small module reactors, sustainable fuels, hydrogen utilization and other sustainable activities.
