Red Arrows Buzz Victoria

CDR’s Aviation Editor, Joetey Attariwala, captured this rare sight of the world famous RAF (Royal Air Force) Red Arrows flight demonstration team, last week, as they flew over Victoria, British Columbia, while en route to Vancouver as part of an 11 week North American tour. It’s been 11 years since the Red Arrows last visited North America, with the current tour being the biggest ever visit to Canada and the United States by the iconic aerobatic team.

According to the RAF, “The 11 week deployment is an indication of the UK’s continuing commitment to enduring relationships, mutual prosperity and extensive security cooperation.” The tour is comprised of aerobatic displays, flypasts of well-known landmarks, and dozens of ground engagements.

The visiting RAF team consists of twelve Red Arrows Hawk aircraft and one Atlas A400M transport aircraft in support. In all, 108 people are on the tour, including pilots, engineers and support staff. Vancouver was the last Canadian stop, after which the team flew on to San Diego. The Red Arrows will return to the United Kingdom in mid-October.
