Minister Sajjan has been re-appointed as Minister of International Development and Anita Anand has been named the head of Canada’s Department of National Defence.

After months of criticism over his handling of the military sexual misconduct crisis, the Hon. Harjit Sajjan has been removed as the minister of national defence.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his new cabinet this morning as the Liberal government prepares for the return of Parliament next month.

Anand will immediately have to work on rebuilding trust within the military as it grapples with a sexual misconduct crisis, experts say. Anand has an extensive background as a corporate lawyer and has worked extensively on corporate governance.

Sajjan will become minister of international development.
