R&D investments and academic partnerships contribute $48 million yearly to Canada’s GDP. As part of the ISS program and the GLLE project, Bell has been assigned the responsibility of supporting an innovation agenda for the fleet. In conjunction with the ITB program, Bell engages in R&D both internally and with various partners within the Canadian aerospace industry. Overall, innovations introduced by Bell as part of the modernization project and sustainment program reduce the level of effort required to keep the aircraft operational, thereby increasing operational availability while maintaining the same fleet size.

• ISS – A one-stop shop for all things related to the Griffon: provision of management, engineering, material (logistic) and maintenance services including but not limited to obsolescence management, publication management, quality, flight safety and other services required by DND such as communication security • GLLE – Major design change to address obsolescence issues with the electrical and avionics systems. Includes all engineering and production services to develop the Griffon C MK II, the modification embodiment on 85 A/C and logistic support activities to sustain the new variant • Over the next five years, Bell will be responsible for delivering balance between the two activities so that the RCAF can sustain operations during the transition – this includes the provision of sustainment to two different variants of the Griffon.
